The Gator Battalion Air Rifle Team is the only JROTC co-curricular activity in which a cadet can earn a varsity sports “E” letter at Everglades High School.  Criteria for earning the varsity letter can be seen at the Varsity requirements button above.

The marksmanship team competes and practices year round.   They participate in both shoulder to shoulder matches at various locations throughout the county, state, and nation as well as, postal matches where firing is completed at EHS and then mailed to various national locations to become qualified for ultimate shoulder to shoulder matches at remote sites. For current Rifle Team calendar see button above.  To see individual or team postal scores click button above.
The Air Rifle Team exclusively shoots .177 match grade rifles, at a distance of ten meters (33 feet), on “ten bull” targets; which is identical to the Olympic competition standards.
Opportunities to attend rifle camps and clinics are made available to team members in good standing.  National recognition as a Junior Distinguished Shooter, collegiate scholarship opportunities and tryouts for national teams can come from competitive high school shooting at Everglades High School.

We shoot three basic rifles at EHS:  The Daisy Model 853, 753, and 888.  The first two models are the most commonly used in the Air Rifle Sporter Division Class; while the 888 is most commonly used for the Sporter and Precision Class shooting.  All equipment scopes, stands, gloves, shooting glasses, stools, timers, etc are provided by the team.  Some shooters have chosen to purchase their own Model 888 rifles and are allowed to use them in most competitions.  The primary advantage of the model 888 is that it is CO2 powered and therefore provides a much more consistent muzzle velocity shot after shot.  CO2 refills are provided by the team.  For complete information on Air Rifle shooter rules, equipment, courses of fire please see the Rulebook button above.

EHS shoots at both an indoor and outdoor range located on the main campus.  EHS sponsors invitational matches throughout the year for Broward and Dade County JROTC and other affiliated clubs/teams.

Approximately 90% of the matches fired each season are Three position matches.  As the name implies there are three positions Prone, Standing and Kneeling in which a shooter must normally shoot ten record “bulls eyes” for a maximum score of 100 points per position.  It follows that in the three position match a perfect 300 is the maximum score.
The remaining matches are either Precision Class matches which are all shot exclusively in the Standing position (normally forty shots in duration), or the “fun” matches ranging from a single shot “closest to center” match or twenty shot single position “double up” matches fired with a scoring mixture of  point values.
